Apple is normally very secretive about keeping the veil on Apple Stores until they are completed. Which makes this sneak peek a tasty tidbit. You may have already seen the floorplan, and you may have already seen the cloaked storefront but now… VistaSucks.WordPress.Com bring you the first spy shot of the interior of the new Apple Store Vancouver… Read the rest of this entry »
“…the sign appeared in the window of A&D Computer, across the street from the town square. Shop manager Aaron Kaplan said they were prompted to put it up because so many people were having problems with Windows Vista, including compatibility issues with older software and trouble adjusting to the interface.”A lot of people didn’t like using Vista, and a lot of the manufacturers forced people to go up to Vista,” he said.
What was the demand for the service? “We had a lot of people coming in and asking about it,” Kaplan said. “Of all the signs we put up there the last two years, at least, we probably got the most response out of that one. A lot of people coming in.” Read the full story on SeattlePI.Com
“Windows Vista was everywhere-and yet nowhere-at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show.Vista was everywhere because the operating system was on most PCs. But it was nowhere in terms of branding and marketing. Microsoft banners and other promotional material reverted to “Windows” branding with no “Vista.” Where Microsoft had Vista, something else accompanied it, like Windows Live, Media Center or Windows Media Extender.
Now what does that say about Vista, the brand, and Microsoft’s commitment to Windows XP’s successor? Has Microsoft given up on Windows Vista-as a brand, at least? The answer is perhaps yes.” Read the full article on Microsoft-Watch.Com
Want a Mac but can’t bear the thought of not being able to run your favorite Windows applications? Haven’t you heard? Macs do Windows. (In some cases better than any PCs) There are several methods for getting Windows running on Mac. You could use “Bootcamp” (Which comes with the latest version of Mac’s operating system.) and allows you to pick which OS to run when you turn on your computer, or you could use virtualization software such as “Parallels” or “VMWare Fusion” which lets you run Windows programs within Mac’s OS.
VMWare features a tool called “Unity” which allows your applications to run as if they were a native Mac application. Check out the video above for an example of Unity in action. Then head over to VMWare’s site to read more about it.

Look for a copy of ”Pirates of Silicon Valley”. Based upon the book, Fire in the Valley: The Making of The Personal Computer, by Paul Freiberger and Michael Swaine, this film documents the rise of the home computer/personal computer through the rivalry between Apple Computer and Microsoft. Here’s a clip…
Content protection features in Windows Vista are preventing customers from playing high-quality video and audio and harming system performance, even as Microsoft neglects security programs that could protect users, computer researcher Peter Gutmann argued at the USENIX Security Symposium in Boston Wednesday. “If there was any threat modeling at all, it was really badly done,” Read more.

Held off on posting this one until I was on a PC that had sound. Someone thought it’d be funny to take Microsoft’s promotional video for “Surface” and mock it. They were right. It is.
I once made an audio clip from it which I used as my Windows error sound effect. I had to get rid of it though because hearing it that many times a week… it got old quick.
MacNN reports: Silicon Valley’s Wingspan today announced that users can now directly copy a DVD to an iPhone or iPod — without using a computer. The company’s iLoad device can transfer either an entire DVD or CD or the tracks of the user’s choice as well as the album and track information directly to the iPod without using a computer, iTunes or Internet connection. I came to a realization the other day while surfing around the net looking for things of interest. I happened to read a comment on a site from a PC user to a Mac guy. It was a very biased and ignorant comment that left me envisioning this PC user as a 5 year old kid with his index fingers in his ears yelling “Lalalalala. Macs suck. Lalalaa I can’t hear you!”
Have you seen that new Apple “Get a Mac” ad about PCs being loaded with bloatware? Have you wondered how truthful it is? The folks over at PC Pitstop performed their own study to determine how bad the problem REALLY is.
Looks like they’re out there, and no, we don’t just mean in Walt and David’s hands…we mean out there. Check out this flick of someone using what almost definitely appears to be an iPhone. He’s all listening to Journey probably, reminiscing about The Sopranos season finale. Rock on! This was taking on the Caltrain in San Francisco. It’s so close we can taste it. Read more.

Engadget’s live coverage of the big Apple conference held today tells of John Carmack revealing hints on their next “blockbuster” game. Currently code named “id Tech 5″ the demoed level showed a track with over 20GB of textures in it. This game looks like a definate Duke Nukem Forever killer. (That game did come out right?) With this news and the news of EA Games returning to the Mac, it sure looks like gaming is starting to become a very big thing on the Mac Read more.
Microsoft “innovates” again with table top pc version of iphone screen. Color me confused. Wasn’t this technology created by Jeff Han? Wasn’t it licensed or bought by Apple for the iphone and possibly future Macs?
From the entry way at Microsoft’s Zune headquarters: the iPod Amnesty Bin. It’s like seeing adorable puppies in a pound. I instinctively wanted to grab those poor sweet neglected iPods into my arms and give them a proper home. Someone ought to notify the association for the prevention of iPod cruelty.
