A Windows to Help You Forget

walt“In just two weeks, on Oct. 22, Microsoft’s long operating-system nightmare will be over. The company will release Windows 7, a faster and much better operating system than the little-loved Windows Vista, which did a lot to harm both the company’s reputation, and the productivity and blood pressure of its users.” Read the full review on All Things Digital

    I am ripped off with my new PC, even though I bought it in 2009. I never got the Windows 7 upgrade. I will downgrade to XP after backing up files. I will download XP drivers and then discard Vista. My PC has Vista Home Premium and I can’t run Remote desktop host nor Microsoft Virtual PC.

    Vista Home Premium has no downgrade rights but I will use the XP Professional CD Key, and then build a amazing PC which is faster.

      Doubt there’s a soul alive who hates Vista more than I.

      Am desperate to reinstall my XP (have the original discs). Am not computer savvy; can get around okay but at 66, don’t want to spend the rest of my days with an OS I loathe. XP was great and loved it despite any faults mentioned on your site.

      Would there be major problems using my XP discs to install over Vista? Am not knowledgeable enough to do “partitioning”.

      If you have any thoughts, suggestions or comments, they’d be more than appreciated.

      Thank you.

    What is the advantage or benefit of purchasing Windows 7 Starter with the following built in restrictions?

    -> 1 CPU Supported Only (Must use crappy PC)
    -> Cannot Create a Home Group (Don’t Share)
    -> Cannot Backup to Network (No network back)
    -> No Multiple Monitor Support
    -> No Fast user switching
    -> No Changeable Desktop Wallpaper
    -> No Desktop Window Manager
    -> No Windows Mobility Center
    -> No Windows Aero Glass Themes
    -> No Aero glass remoting
    -> No Multitouch
    -> No Premium Games Included
    -> No Windows Media Center
    -> No Windows Media Player Remote Media Experience
    -> No Encrypting File System
    -> No Location Aware Printing
    -> No Remote Desktop Host
    -> No Presentation Mode
    -> No Windows Server domain joining
    -> No Windows XP Mode
    -> No AppLocker
    -> No BitLocker Drive Encryption
    -> No BranchCache Distributed Cache
    -> No Direct Access
    -> No Subsystem for Unix-based Applications

    Microsoft builds in all these restrictions, then plans to charge you big money to remove them. Is this the type of “Features” you want to purchase?

    Ha…the write got caught with his pants down:

    “After months of testing Vista on multiple computers, new and old, I believe it is the best version of Windows that Microsoft has produced.” — Wall Street Journal, Jan. 18, 2007

    “After using pre-release versions of Windows 7 for nine months, and intensively testing the final version for the past month on many different machines, I believe it is the best version of Windows Microsoft has produced.” — Wall Street Journal, Oct. 8, 2009

    Nothing like just updating the version number and passing it off like a new article.

    Microsoft is an evil company. Vista has slammed my productivity and MS should give all Vista users a free Windows 7 upgrade. That Ballmer is a big, fat blowhard.

    I purchased a toshiba satellite laptop with vista installed october of 09. on january 24, 2010, I received the update notice for a service pack. I allowed this update. The same problem occurred tha has evidentally affected other users in which my laptop fails to boot. I called tech support after searching the web for answers. I was then informed that I would have to have either an XP or 7 disc to reboot my laptop!?! Are they serious? My laptop has the windows vista authentication sticker. came with all the booklets and pamphlets showing vista as the preinstalled os. Why would I need some other boot disc than the one I already have functional or not?any other answers for resolving my issue would be appreciated
