PC gamers shun Vista, sticking with XP
Games like Crysis benefit clearly from the DX 10 upgrade, but that benefit hasn’t been enough to push gamers into upgrading to Vista. Historically, those are the very first computer users, living on the bleeding edge, to upgrade to new hardware and operating systems. The statistics from Valve, whose Steam system lets gamers download titles from the web and which collects system information in return, shows that Vista still has less than a 15 percent market share among these users.
That’s roughly in line with the total consumer market, but it’s a real surprise considering the advantages Vista’s DirectX 10 offers gamers. There’s no way to run DirectX 10 on XP, so the only way to get the very best PC gaming experience is to run Vista. They should theoretically be lining up to buy Vista in droves. Vista sucks balls even on a high end computer. Why the fuck would you want to run all that flashy garbage in the background while running a high end videogame on max settings. Vista sucks.

because i tried linux for awhile it was also very very nice..just cant run one of my music mixer pgms on it..yet, anyways i finally bit the bullet and tried vista with sp1 and it runs everything i can throw at it perfectly..no slowdowns, hard drive thrashing, or any other problems. we said the same thing when xp came out, everybody had to upgrade to run it perfectly. you want a os to do everything for you and expect it to run with cheap hardware ?? get real buddy, you want features it equals bloat !! dahhh… people like you repeat uninformed comments about something you probably have not even tried. get real and study things properly before making rude comments using foul language. ps i am also slightly guilty of bashing vista too..until i gave ms a chance to get that sp1 out. now all is fine and i have to say vista is the best os i have tried. i have 1.5gb mem a 1.2 amd and a nvidea 256 card nothing really high end here and still it runs perfectly. nuff said

…difference is XP had 2 years to get out, Vista had 5 plus more programmers, more beta testers, and more money thrown at than XP.

…yes, but define cheap first. Cheap that maybe 85% of users own would qualify?

I find that as Vista lacks in Computer Gaming power, Apple and the Linux community can take that market if they dedicate themselves into leveraging the high-end graphics vendors (essentially, their drivers), to overtake Microsoft and their Direct-X capabilities.
Personally, I use Ubuntu Linux 8.10 and Mac OS X 10.5 (Mac Mini 2GHz).
You’ve got a good blog; it’s nice to see progressive blogs against Microsoft. Perhaps you can share more of your personal experiences living without Vista.

@tomax7 — I see your point, but it’s flawed. Microsoft only demands expensive (new) hardware because the system is not a lean, fit, optimized OS. Power users demand performance, but instead Microsoft chose to segment their OS into five different ones, none of which are any faster than each other.
Requiring people to invest in thousands of dollars to simply run their existing applications and get online is by far unreasonable. That said, I recommend most people run a minimum of 2GHz, 1GB RAM, 120GB SATA. Sadly, this isn’t enough to run Vista at the same performance of Windows XP.

I’d like to but I’m so pressed for time lately. (Work)
I started a business and am trying to get it off the ground.
