Vista Update Causes USB Problems

A recent Vista update is causing headaches for users with USB devices.
Microsoft last week re-released a software update intended to provide performance and reliability enhancements for Windows Vista -based and Windows Vista Service Pack 1-based systems. It was one of eight security bulletins and updates the company made available on April 8.

Users who installed the update, however, soon found their USB devices unresponsive, particularly mice and flash drives. Removing and re-installing the programs reportedly did not immediately solve the problem.

Microsoft confirmed the bug, but declined to provide further details. Read the full story at PCMag.Com found via Bink.Nu

Vista sucks period. I don’t know what Microsoft is smoking but SP1 is a waste of time. I have to use my PC for certain software that cannot be run in my iMac G5 and also for work I have to deal with Vista daily. It absolutely blowingly sucks. And SP1 is a waste of everyone’s time. And the update is incompatible with 90% of people’s computers out there. After wasting almost an hour, the computer refuses to boot up only to revert back to previous state. What a colossal waste of time. Clearly, there are freaking useless morons working at Microsoft thinking way too highly of themselves. Useless pricks all of them. When I quit my job, I no longer have to stare at a PC. I will smash my laptop to bits and will go iMac G5 only! And only a damn moron would install MS Windows in the Apple computers. I hate PC maggots and I hate prepubescent worthless morons still saying PC is superior to Apple. Apple is the most superior computing that exists there today. PC sucks, Microsoft blows, and Vista fucking sucks!

…anyone else ‘find’ their microphone disappearing from the list when you disable it? Only way to ‘enable’ is right click in a blank window of audio devices and pick “show disabled devices”.

What’s wrong with the old icon with a red stripe through it? At least I know it is around.

Dipshit, Apples are PC’s now. They run off the same processors and motherboards….

Plus everyone knows that linux > apple.

I have wasted countless DAYS trying to get my friggin computers with Vista on them to recognize the USB devices I plug in. Some of them work, some of them don’t depending on which port I try. I think somebody needs to put together a class-action lawsuit against Microsoft. They have cost me so much time and money and productivity in the last year it makes me sick to think about.

Bill Gates should be tried for treason right along with George W.

    Vista SUCKS!

Microsoft sent out an update Tuesday night (July 8th) and now my USB ports are not functioning my wireless adapter won’t work on my XP compuer and my USB mouse doesnt work on my Vista computer. All Microsoft will do is give you a phone number to call. No telling how long one will have to wait to get to talk to some one, so I definitely agree that Vista Sucks

I noticed that there was an extra USB controller in my Device Manager. I had 4 USB Universal Host Controllers and one USB Enhanced Host Controller, with 5 USB Root Hubs for 8 USB ports. When I disabled the Enhanced Host Controller, one of the Root Hubs disappeared, and all my ports are now working.

DO NOT UPGRADE TO VISTA AT ALL COST.
Installed Vista 64 – big mistake! Spent one month on PC for Vista to accept hardware and software – almost done except the built-in USB Hub – Vista does not recognise it. I am now ready to blow it up.

I just bought a new Gateway T something with Vista 64, what a total piece of shit, not only did the automatic updates make every single usb non-functional, I had to resort to system restore about 6 times since buying the stupid thing. Even when I try to upload updates from gateway itself, it resorts to being non-functional. I even tried to put in a new driver from the Canon site for my scanner, and the same thing happened again…I don’t know what the hell is going on…what can be the culprit?

Saber is a genius!! Diable the enhanced host controller and VOILA, all the USB inputs work. What a ridiculous glitch! And who would have ever figured this out on their own, Many thanks, oh wise Saber!
