Gauging Windows user’s reactions to Vista with Google

Ever wonder where I find some of the articles I post here? A lot of comes from being spotted in customized .RSS feeds from technology websites but a lot of it is also found with Google’s search. Thanks to the amazing “quotes” and “&” feature it’s always easy to find relevant information and/or an exact phrase. Here are some of my favorite Google Searches and the enlightening consumer consensus they reveal about Windows Vista…

I haven’t linked to the actual search results because that’s just to much work. Also note that Google’s results count fluctuates wildly so that a search that results in 1 hit on one day could return 1000 hits the next day. But here are the results at the time of my writing.

  1. Robert Young Says:

    Greetings,

So far no one has seemed to mention issues with EXCEL on the new ‘Office 2007′. Well let me explain…I make lists and I color-code each line entry (blue, green, red, etc) to match the category. In Excel 2003, it worked fairly well. But now the new Vista/Office 2007 WON’T LET ME FORMAT MY OWN LINE! In one case, I coded the font color red, and the computer changed it to blue! In another, it never changed the color in the first place, despite me clicking the button.

Initially, I was able to do a work-around by copying/pasting pre-formatted lines from Excel 2003. But now that’s not working.

The problem seems to be overlapping formatting codes that are incompatible with each other. In other words, in the past, if the above line was coded blue, the next line would start out blue as well. But if I wanted to change it to black, green, or red, no problem.

Well not now. The computer decides what color the line will be.

    Hello? I am the customer?

Ok, for those that are saying ‘why did you get Office 2007′? No, I was not that dumb. For some reason, my 2002 software quit working (and won’t reboot, even though I still have the original disk with the original code!, original box and original instructions!). Finally givin up on rebooting or uploading a failed CD, I downloaded a free trial version of Office 2007. BIG MISTAKE.

When I searched for a free trial version of Office 2003, it’s no longer available on the Microsoft website.

Also, I hate the way we’re forced to have all pastel colors, the toolbars are over-sized (PIMPED), we can’t get customer support without paying for it…I could go on, but why bother?

    Microsoft=Evil Empire.

So, any advice? Conditional formatting simply won’t work properly on Office 2007.

Very good post! Vista is a pretty OS - pretty messed up! They shouldn’t have rushed it out the door. You know its no good when Microsoft rather talk about how great Windows 7, or Vienna is going to be! Their talk about how great Vienna reminds me of something - oh yeah, it reminds me how they said Vista was going to be so great!

“They shouldn’t have rushed it out the door”

…where have you been for the past 6 years? It has been in development since I think 2002, if not earlier.

I agree, Vista sucks as well it is interesting that Microsoft is already talking about Windows 2010.

What that reminds me of another sad OS called ME.

Vista is the Son of ME or ME II.

It is a sad statement by a company with over 5,000 programmers who can’t get a decent OS made.

  4. Brian Says:

I’ve used Vista for a year now and it is now on all three of my home PC’s and we love it. Despite some bumps, I’ve had no major problems out of it and it runs very well. I now works with all of my older software, hardware and I’ve gotten it to run faster than XP ever ran. I think some people need to get off this bandwagon and give it a shot.

  5. vistasucks Says:

    >I think some people need to get off this bandwagon and give it a shot.

I think most people get ON the bandwagon because they HAVE given it a shot.

  6. ogman Says:

“I think most people get ON the bandwagon because they HAVE given it a shot.”

    You are correct, sir!

  7. Bob Says:

Frankly, you shouldn’t have to give an OS ‘a shot’.

It should simply work. The amount of clients I now have to deal with who have had to become amateur programmers in order to just get the bloody thing working properly is preposterous.

Do MS really believe that Joe Public are so fascinated with their computers that they want to re-program the bloody things? - I don’t think they do, I believe people want to turn it on and get on with their work/play don’t they?

“I think some people need to get off this bandwagon and give it [Vista] a shot.”

    …I agree. Where’s the shotgun?
