Vista is C|Net’s “Most Terrible Tech Product” of the last 21 years.

Vista BusinessC|Net recently posted a top 10 list of worst technological products. The list apparantly spans 21 years of technology (1985-2006) and the winner of them all?  Yup. Everyone’s favorite disaster… Vista.

“Any operating system that provokes a campaign for its predecessor’s reintroduction deserves to be classed as terrible technology. Any operating system that quietly has a downgrade-to- previous-edition option introduced for PC makers deserves to be classed as terrible technology. Any operating system that takes six years of development but is instantly hated by hordes of PC professionals and enthusiasts deserves to be classed as terrible technology.

Windows Vista conforms to all of the above. Its incompatibility with hardware, its obsessive requirement of human interaction to clear security dialogue box warnings and its abusive use of hated DRM, not to mention its general pointlessness as an upgrade, are just some examples of why this expensive operating system earns the final place in our terrible tech list.” Read the full top 10 list on CNet.Co.Uk

I bought my current laptop, which runs XP, just as Vista-loaded machines were hitting the stores. It was the best of both worlds: I got a good deal on a machine that was being blown out the doors to make room for the new Vista product, and I got a machine that didn’t crash every two hours, as I’ve seen on Vista units (especially those running on machines with less than 2.0 GB RAM or 2.0 gHz processors).

no offense meant, but as much as I hate Vista, I think ME is far worse of a windows product then vista…

On the same note, I’d still make Vista #2 and ME #1 on a terrible top ten list.

…yes Frank, Vista is ME II or Son of ME. But the difference is Vista has been in development for 6 years, so therefore it tops ME as being the worst product.

I absolutely HATE Vista. I cannot believe how good XP is. BRING BACK XP IN WINDOWS 7! Incompatibility with TONS of great and necessary software. Frustrating repetitive security dialogues. Constant freezes. Windows Update errors. Difficulty installing new fonts. VISTA SUCKS!!! SUCKS!!! SUCKS!!! Sure looks nice, but packaging is NOT everything…

Well, I just tried a beta of Windows 7, expecting some improvement over vista. I just wanted to do some simple file sharing with 2 machines – I wasn’t allowed to do any such thing. All I was invited to do was set up a little neighbourhood network, which wasn’t what I wanted at all, but there’s no other way. I finally got to access the other PC by tricking it into mapping it as a network drive.

I now think Windows 7 is even worse that vista, which I thought wasn’t possible. Aren’t they listening to all the screams? Do they think by renaming vista and calling it windows 7 that everybody will be fooled? Oh, yeah, what was it, Nevada, no, Amarillo, no, some desert name, wasn’t it? Repackaging vista with a different name fooled them all, didn’t it?

Oh, and did I mention there’s no more option to choose Classic Start Menu? Fuck this, M$ can stick their windows 7, I’ll just keep using my nice Server 2003 which does everything I want and fits on one CD.
