Someone explain to me how this whole thing is illegal. I have vista and genuinely like it. No complaints. However, if I like Vista, I -love- OS X. I have a circa 2000 Power Mac dual G4 450mHz running OS X 3. But not only is it too slow, it's also an old enough version of OS X that a lot of things wont run on it and there are some really cool features (like Dashboard!) that didn't come out til later.

Sad fact is that right now, if I stretched myself, I could possibly afford a mac mini, but I am predominately a laptop user and there's no way I could afford a macbook pro, and a 13" would be just too small for my tastes. Besides, even the 13 inchers are too much for me right now. Heck, even the afore mentioned mac mini would be a psuedo-irresponsible stretch.

I have an HP dv6227cl laptop (AMD turion 64x2 TL-50) that I -really- -REALLY- want to install Leopard on. I had a crisis of conscience on whether or not I should do it (as it's contrary to the intentions of apple for me to do so) but after some thought and prayer, I decided what it would come down to is whether or not its expressly -illegal- to do. If it's -illegal- than I wont do it, regardless of whether I want to or not, but if it's not illegal, then I'll need to upgrade the ram, and hard drive in order to accomodate both systems.

Is it a stipulation in the user agreement or something that makes it illegal?

If somebody could shed some light on this for me? I'd be really appreciative!

Thanks and God Bless!

mac sucks the end
apple has done so much lying to promote mac, and mac still sucks
mac is slow and will never catch up to a pc, and pc's just offer much much more for people to use
mac are for beginners

"I would agree that Mac is better except being a programmer, the tools for Windows like Visual Studio are next to free on a Windows compared to Mac. Sure you can program Java on Mac, but Java GUIs are so slow. So from a developers perspective, the .NET platform is a dream and Windows is the way to go."

It's not quite a fair comparison since .net is not platform agnostic like java. It's meant to be used on one platform and granted it runs faster on that (windows) platform.

It all comes down to personal preference what is "THE BEST". If you are a 'cough' .NET programmer (yuk!) then of course Windows will be BEST for you. That is only 1 application in the world of millions of applications. Macs are gaining so much ground because with the power of UNIX behind it gives it the flexibility and stability people want. Apple has made a lot of progress in MAC OSX and its cool to see how far they have come from 10 years ago.

@vistasucks: Amen brother! I switched to a Mac June of last year and have been as happy as punch ever since. Apple has really done wonders to OS X and it's a really clean sharp and stable OS.

I run Windows XP for gaming on an older PC and I run both Parallels and BootCamp on the Mac when I want to use the power of 4 XEON processors to run Windows software. Other than that, it stays in OS X and I rarely feel the need to use Windows.

I have to look at Vista at work, and boy do I dread it each time I do.

Well I guess I won't be turning my old PC into an Ubuntu Linux box after all!
As a 15+ year veteran of Windows (and a power user) I can honestly say I agree whole heartedly with that guy's comments. I'm so glad I switched to OS X and you couldn't PAY me to go back to using Windows at home. (Not even for $10,000)
