Installing Mac OS X Leopard on a PC

OS X PC…“You can build your system for a lot less than a real Mac and get the performance of a top-dollar Apple machine. This is fact and a lot of the real Mac users will deny, but it is fact. My machine runs a e4300 Core Duo Processor over-clocked to 3.40 GHZ. Where can you get a 3.4-GHz Mac? It will cost you a fortune. I have 1066-MHz DDR2 memory. Where can you get that on a real Mac???”

“Why run OS X? Well, when you are just used to Windows, it is like living inside a house and not experimenting the whole world out there. Once you get out of it, it is just amazing. Mac is just that: You just feel like glued to the computer. Everything is just beautiful, the interface, the stability. Once you experiment it, you don’t want to go back to windows. Trust me.” Read the full how-to guide on OSx86Scene.com (found on MacUser.Com)

Well I guess I won’t be turning my old PC into an Ubuntu Linux box after all!
As a 15+ year veteran of Windows (and a power user) I can honestly say I agree whole heartedly with that guy’s comments. I’m so glad I switched to OS X and you couldn’t PAY me to go back to using Windows at home. (Not even for $10,000)

@vistasucks: Amen brother! I switched to a Mac June of last year and have been as happy as punch ever since. Apple has really done wonders to OS X and it’s a really clean sharp and stable OS.

I run Windows XP for gaming on an older PC and I run both Parallels and BootCamp on the Mac when I want to use the power of 4 XEON processors to run Windows software. Other than that, it stays in OS X and I rarely feel the need to use Windows.

I have to look at Vista at work, and boy do I dread it each time I do.

You do know this is illegal right? Buy a mac computer, your get what you pay for. none of my Macs have died, all of my PCs have.

  4. extremely interesting…. i think i might try this one. thanks for the info

I would agree that Mac is better except being a programmer, the tools for Windows like Visual Studio are next to free on a Windows compared to Mac. Sure you can program Java on Mac, but Java GUIs are so slow. So from a developers perspective, the .NET platform is a dream and Windows is the way to go.

  6. AnyOS says:

It all comes down to personal preference what is “THE BEST”. If you are a ‘cough’ .NET programmer (yuk!) then of course Windows will be BEST for you. That is only 1 application in the world of millions of applications. Macs are gaining so much ground because with the power of UNIX behind it gives it the flexibility and stability people want. Apple has made a lot of progress in MAC OSX and its cool to see how far they have come from 10 years ago.

It’s not quite a fair comparison since .net is not platform agnostic like java. It’s meant to be used on one platform and granted it runs faster on that (windows) platform.

    mac sucks the end
apple has done so much lying to promote mac, and mac still sucks
mac is slow and will never catch up to a pc, and pc’s just offer much much more for people to use
    mac are for beginners

Someone explain to me how this whole thing is illegal. I have vista and genuinely like it. No complaints. However, if I like Vista, I -love- OS X. I have a circa 2000 Power Mac dual G4 450mHz running OS X 3. But not only is it too slow, it’s also an old enough version of OS X that a lot of things wont run on it and there are some really cool features (like Dashboard!) that didn’t come out til later.

Sad fact is that right now, if I stretched myself, I could possibly afford a mac mini, but I am predominately a laptop user and there’s no way I could afford a macbook pro, and a 13″ would be just too small for my tastes. Besides, even the 13 inchers are too much for me right now. Heck, even the afore mentioned mac mini would be a psuedo-irresponsible stretch.

I have an HP dv6227cl laptop (AMD turion 64×2 TL-50) that I -really- -REALLY- want to install Leopard on. I had a crisis of conscience on whether or not I should do it (as it’s contrary to the intentions of apple for me to do so) but after some thought and prayer, I decided what it would come down to is whether or not its expressly -illegal- to do. If it’s -illegal- than I wont do it, regardless of whether I want to or not, but if it’s not illegal, then I’ll need to upgrade the ram, and hard drive in order to accomodate both systems.

Is it a stipulation in the user agreement or something that makes it illegal?

If somebody could shed some light on this for me? I’d be really appreciative!

    Thanks and God Bless!

    -John

Well i think that there would be some legality problems ith doing this as the licence agreement i had for my osx specified apple hardware only.
Apple may sell the os on at a price but i would be suprised as they make most of there money from there hardware. Apple tried licencing out there power pc range some years ago but this actualy financialy hurt them.
To be honest i dont know why people make such a big deal over apple’s, i have used mac os from 7 to 10 and windows from 95 to vista. In my experience windows 2000 xp and vista are atleast on par to osx in performence and stability.
I had problems with osx using several usb devices and it quite often corrupted saved documents and even crashed a few times.
to be blunt i had more problems with osx than i did with xp so i got fed up and sold my mac and i dont miss it.
As far as the hardware goes it is all standard pc hardware so provided you dont buy crap it wont last any longer than a pc

I want to find out how to manipulate my vista so as to infuse mac dna into it, giving it compatability with mac software. I already figured out how to manipulate its gui to look and behave like mac by replacing the welcome center and explorer button .dll’s (after taking ownership), and with some desktop.ini’s.

  12. Arjan says:

I have done it and it’s really nice and stable. I haven’t used windows for days. Leopard is the best! (and the pc costs only $330.

  13. Somebody says:

Just another pile of bullcrap from Windows haters…

Really, Windows 7 IS most advanced OS in world…

  14. Jay says:

I’ve been using Windows 7 for a bit now. Still not as good as Snow Leopard.
