It seems that some Canadian retailers recieved word from Apple yesterday not to expect any new Mac hardware until October. A store manager for London Drugs – One of Canada’s largest authorized Apple retailers had this to say: “It seems that Apple’s core business is the iPhone now. That’s all they’re worried about. We’ve been told not to expect any new Mac hardware for our shelves for at least 2 months. No new iMacs, no new Minis. This is a first. We’ve never had such a long delay in getting Apple product before.” Concerned with this news, I placed a call to the local Bestbuy which has a mini Apple store inside. The Apple rep there said. “We have limited quantities on their way.” He emphasized that stock would increase later but their first delivery wouldn’t be as full blown as in the past. Is Apple having production difficulties? Are the new Macs selling better in the US than Apple expected? Is Apple too busy putting iPhones on shelves to ship Computers? Unanswered questions for now.
[Update: Aug 30th] London Drugs now has limited quantities of 20″ iMacs in stock. No mini’s, no cordless keyboards. Other Mac retailers in Vancouver have virtually identical inventory. Retailers are at a loss to explain why quantities are so limited. Estimates for Wireless keyboards are currently 4-6 weeks.
