Microsoft Top Secret Product Revealed: “Surface”
Microsoft “innovates” again with table top pc version of iphone screen. Color me confused. Wasn’t this technology created by Jeff Han? Wasn’t it licensed or bought by Apple for the iphone and possibly future Macs?
It is cool. However all I can envision is a blue screen of death displayed on my table while it uploads my cel phone contact list and bank card info to Russia and Nigeria. Multi-Touch spinning, and zooming error dialogs. Just what I needed!

I did read it. 3 times. Didn’t see anything about patents on the timeline either. It’s easy to say you had an idea a long time ago. Do you believe everything you’re told? Do you believe Iraq has weapons of mass destruction? I could make a fancy page claiming I’ve been developing multi-touch screens since 1950. It’d take me a couple hours. Doesn’t make it true.
Show me a patent for the technology that says MS came up with it first, or licensed it off the patent holder first and I’ll stfu. Until then… you should.
The fact is they’re two different technolgies. One is the real deal and is an actual screen capable of sensing multiple inputs on it’s surface. The other is a ghetto workaround to achieve the same effect but uses cameras to track the hands.
Apple announced their device first, and declared they had patented the shit out of it. Shortly thereafter MS announces a version of the same thing that’s just different enough in it’s execution that it won’t violate Apple’s patents but achieves the same result in a lower tech way.
If MS really took 6 years to develop that technology, they’re taking to many vacation days. A good team with an unlimited budget could whip up what they debuted in a month. And it’s still supposedly not finished yet?
