Why not just pay around $29 to get a shareware which is capable of converting DVD movies into iPod mp4 in just one step?! It’s all of your choice: get iPod mp4 for free in two steps; or pay for a fast ipod converter, take AVex DVD to iPod for example, and create the iPod mp4 in just one step.

I tried converting a movie for my ipod video once so far. An it ended up having sound sync issues. It started out ok but by the end of the movie the sound must’ve been 1.5 seconds out of sync. :-/ Not sure what causes that or how to fix it.

Handbrake is “iffy,” at best. Read the forums. In particular, it doesn’t work well on Vista, it’s hit-or-miss.
I too converted our wedding video DVD to iPod/mp4, and suffered voice sync problems using Videira, It seems to get worse the more you use the program, which to me doesn’t make much sense, but that’s what I’ve seen.

I’ve used Handbrake on my PC and my Mac. I can honestly say it works better on my Mac. On my PC (XP) the encoded file’s audio would gradually get out of sync over the length of the film until by the end of the movie the dialog was 2 seconds ahead of the picture. No such problems on my Mac.
